TOURNAMENTS

CTA students are not required, but are encouraged, to compete in tournaments, so we always let you know about them in case you want to compete in them, and they are a great way to make friends with people from other clubs, and find out just how good your skills are right now! Once you reach the advanced level (Red Belt, Brown Belt, and Black Belt), we highly encourage you to compete in at least one tournament a year.

Here are some tournaments which we recommend or make you aware of:

The State Games of Mississippi

Date: Saturday, June 1, 2013.

Start Time: 8:00AM.

Address: Meridian Community College, 910 MS Hwy. 19, Meridian, MS 39307.

Cost: $50.00 if you register in advance by printing the registration form and mailing it in, $51.50 if you register in advance online, and $55.00 at the door.

Which level should you check off?

White Belt: Select Level 1 (Beginner).

Yellow Belt: Select Level 2 (Novice).

Green Belt or Blue Belt: Level 3 (Intermediate).

Red Belt, Brown Belt, or Black Belt: Level 4 (Advanced).

For forms competition, you will have to choose between competing in traditional forms or open forms. You can also compete in sparring, and Blue Belts or higher can also compete in weapons forms.

First place at this tournament makes you a state champion!

The cost is $50.00 to compete in forms, weapons forms, and sparring if you register online May 1-26, 2013. It will be $55.00 at the door. You will have to choose whether you are going to compete in traditional forms or open forms. In traditional forms, all of the styles (Korean, Japanese, Okinawan, and Chinese) will be competing in the same division.

All first place winners will receive a state champion certificate! All first through third place finishers qualify to compete at The State Games of America in Hershey, PA in the Karate competition on Saturday, August 3, 2013! We require you to be Blue Belt or higher to compete in weapons forms.

World Christian Karate Association (WCKA)

The CTA is a member school of the WCKA. You can compete against students from other WCKA member schools at the annual training camp in Idaho each year.

Mississippi Karate Association (MKA)

You need to become a member of the MKA, compete in six tournaments (five throughout Mississippi and one in Alabama) within one calendar year (between March and September), and accumulate the most points in your division to become a state champion. All CTA students may compete in forms and sparring, and CTA students who are Blue Belt and above may also compete in weapons forms. All their tourneys start at 10:30AM. Registration is 8:30-10:00AM.
